| Alba

"Alba", an original composition by Enrique Granados, is sub-titled "Song Without Words". Arranger Kevin McChesney uses layers of sound to bring out the Spanish flavor inherent in the melody. First, flowing eighth notes set up an inner-voice pattern then open fifths in sustained note values are added in the bass range. Finally the melody enters in thirds, doubled at the octave. This texture is found throughout most of the work with contrasting elements of technique to add "just a little more spice". Flutes or other C instruments are optional, but preferable. Set in c minor, this piece is 98 measures. |
